Nostell Priory Doll’s House
The guides at Hoghton Tower recommended a visit to this Doll’s House and it is certainly impressive, well presented, with some very good Audio Video giving further information.
I visited specifically to see the Doll’s House and, though would hope to return one day with Sarah for a fuller visit, I have added it to the National Trust properties section.
…Joy Stafford’s Doll’s House
This Dolls House was made for my mother Joy Phillips (maiden name Stafford) by her brother John. We are not exactly sure when it was made but probably in the late 1930s, John was 9 years older. My recollection is that it sat on top of a wardrobe and was occassionally brought down for we three children to play with. …
Silver miniatures at Oxborough
On a visit to Oxborough Estate in Norfolk, part of the National Trust, we saw a display of some silver miniatures which they thought had been made for a Doll’s House. I attempted to picture all the miniatures and the information given about them. …
Tudor Rose Miniatures, Norfolk
Physical Doll’s House shops are much harder to find than they once were and therefore finding one not far off our journeys in Norfolk meant a visit to see what they had on offer. This is situated in a Garden Centre, and not particularly well signposted outside or in. …
Newby Hall Dolls House Exhibition
Four or five years ago we visited Newby Hall near Ripon in North Yorkshire. In one of the buildings on the estate is a collection of dolls houses. These were donated by Caroline Hamilton and Jane Fiddick and described, with some wonderful photographs, in their book “Our Dollshouses”.

A World in Miniature Museum, near Carlisle
This museum is in the downstairs of Houghton Hall Garden Centre, Houghton on the outskirts of Carlise, not far from Junction 44 of the M6. There was some debate about the feasibility of parking with a caravan but there is part of the car park which makes this very easy.

West Horsley Place
I was inspired to start these pages on Doll’s Houses by a visit to Hoghton Tower, reputedly the third most haunted house in England. But we had visited West Horsley Place because of the Ghosts TV series.
I hadn’t watched any of the programmes when we decided to visit, though Sarah had, but I made sure I got through them all in order to understand what we were being told. …
Stamford Tea Room
This is not strictly a Doll’s House but we were in Stamford market place and I noticed this display in the window of a Tea Shop. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to go to the tearoom itself but I thought I would include the photo.
…Middleton Hall near Tamworth
We visited Middleton Hall on our way down to Essex. It is part of Historic Houses.
Here is a picture of a Doll’s House on display. I don’t have any further details about the House but I am including other pictures I took for various reasons.
…Wallington Hall, Northumberland
Wallington Hall has children’s room containing a substantial Dolls House that can be viewed all around. This is a National Trust property but I’m afraid I didn’t take note of any desciptions about the house or its background.
…Hoghton Tower Doll’s House Tour
Having lived in Chorley for 11 years we had never visited Hoghton Tower (pronounced Hor-ton). This was partly due to the cost and partly due to the fact it often didn’t seem to be open when we thought about going. However, in May 2025 we joined Historic Houses when visiting Norhumberland. …
Cowper and Newton Museum
On a trip to St Peter’s Harold Wood we contrived to pass through Olney in order to visit the Cowper and Newton Museum which is part of Historic Houses. (Cowper is pronounced coo-per not cow-per).
Newton and Cowper are perhaps most famous today for the hymns that collaborated in writing. …
My Doll’s House
As of summer 2025 I have decided that my Doll’s House is going to be dismantled later in the year to make way for work on some “Room Boxes”. My Doll’s House will continue on this website, but I have decided to start a series on Dolls Houses I have visited and other sundry info. …
