A brief biography of David Phillips:

  • Born in Sheffield in 1961, attended Norton Free School and Rowlinson Comprehensive School.
  • Read Mathematics at New College Oxford where I came to faith in Christ.
  • Worked for five years in computer programming for London Transport with my part being privatised whilst I was there and eventually becoming part of CAP Group. During this time I was also a voluntary helper at the Oxford-Kilburn Club. Worshipped at St Cuthbert's, West Hampstead.
  • After Sarah and I were married we moved to Durham where I trained for Church of England ministry (at Cranmer Hall, part of St John's College) including doing the university degree in theology.
  • Served as Curate at St James Carlisle, then as Minister in Charge of St Saviour's Chadderton (I was also a General Synod Representative for the Diocese and served on various Diocesan committees.
  • Became General Secretary of Church Society, worshipping at St Mary's Watford when not elsewhere, and licensed as a Public Preacher in the Diocese of St Albans.  I was for a while General Synod rep for St Albans and served on various Diocesan committees.
  • Vicar of St James Chorley in the Diocese of Blackburn.
  • Retired from stipendiary ministry January 2023.
  • Part-time in the finance team of 10ofThose.
  • Member of St Andrews Leyland and from the summer of 2025 overseing the retirement ministry.

Sarah was brought up in Bury, Lancashire. She read mathematics at Somerville College, Oxford and  in addition to being a mother has worked as a Public Finance accountant in the NHS, for the Abbeyfield Society and the Lynda Jackson McMillan Centre.  She was Finance Manager of  Ten of Those until 2023 when she reduced her hours and moved into a supporting role.

Alex was born in Carlisle. He read Engineering at Christ Church, Oxford and worked for a year as a voluntary worker for UCCF Relay working with the Christians Union in Oxford. Alex married Kyung Yeon (Kate) Ham in September 2015 and then worked for Pöyry UK. Kyung Yeon worked with post-graduate students for St Ebbe’s Church, Oxford and the Oxford Pastorate. Our grandson, Euan, was born in January 2018 whilst our grandaughter, Hana, was born in July 2019 and our grandson, Rowan, in May 2021.  Since the beginning of 2019 they have been serving in the far East with BCMS Crosslinks. In Jan 2025 Alex became pastor of Redeemer Internationl Christian Church in Busan initially as  Crosslinks Mission partner whilst completing an MDiv.

Abi was born in Carlisle. She read Geography at Magdalene College, Cambridge and then worked for a year as a Church Assistant at St Andrew the Great in Cambridge. She was then the Adminstrator at St Nic’s Tooting (properly St Nicholas Tooting Graveney), worked for the Development Team at Westminster School, London. She then trained as a teacher, was teaching in Morden and now in Tooting.. She is on the leadership team of one of the CPAS Ventures camps.
