This Dolls House was made for my mother Joy Phillips (maiden name Stafford) by her brother John. We are not exactly sure when it was made but probably in the late 1930s, John was 9 years older. My recollection is that it sat on top of a wardrobe and was occassionally brought down for we three children to play with. In later years mum had it on a small table and that has gone with it. The House passed to Sue who has had it renovated. As much as possible it matche how it was made, though we don’t know much about the original furniture and fittings. We don’t know wher Uncle John got the inspiration but it fits with the era and it possible he knew a house like it, though not near the family home in Oakwood Road.
I presume it is made to scale but I don’t know what is, but certainly smaller than the now standared 1 inch to 1 foot (1:12). Sue has populated it with figures of children (from Dolls House Emporium) as the adults would look too large. The inside doors, which have warped over time and been left in that condition, are about 5 inches, which would make it something like 1:15 or 1:16. The lights are now working again as can be seen.

The Garage which has doors front and back. It houses, as it did years ago, much bigger dolls and horses.

I hadn’t seen the house in person since it was renoated, until I visited it on 21st July 2025
