Springfield Progress Report Part 2

A few weeks ago, shortly before my grandchildren arrived, the track for Phase 1 of the layout was laid and a certain amount of other stuff added.

There are two photos and a video.  There is only one building that will continue which was made for me by Gary Wainwright. Only part of platform 1 has been made, using 3D writing, and there are several temporary buildings and trees made by the children from an IKEA kit.  The three signals are also 3D printed, as are the buffer stops, footbridge, on car, trolleys and furniture, shipping containers and pallets.

The signals will probably need to be replaced with lattice posts and, although the footbridge looks good, it is not really suitable for either Railway company envisaged as sharing the station.

At this point I have three engines but one, which came with The Easterner Set, developed a problem and has been returned to Hornby. It is supposed to be back in a few weeks.

The buffer stops are also not suitable for the location but were a temporary fix as were most of the sidings, to give a bit more action to the layout.

I will probably way a few months before doing any more major work. I am torn between doing Phase 2 of the track, starting to ballast phase 1, or spending time learning CAD so that I can produce some better buildings and sort out why some of the OO designs did not shrink very well down to TT scale.

At this point there aren’t really any other locos that fit this layout but by September, or in to 2027 there should be a least a couple more.  There also aren’t many wagons. I think I have most of the ones that are currently suitable.  I suppose it is a benefit of a relatively new scale that I am not tempted to splash out on a lot of rolling stock but can instead add it as I make progress with the layout.
