This museum is in the downstairs of Houghton Hall Garden Centre, Houghton on the outskirts of Carlise, not far from Junction 44 of the M6. There was some debate about the feasibility of parking with a caravan but there is part of the car park which makes this very easy.
We were on the way to Moffat where we stayed for a few days principally to visit Caerlaverock Wetland Wildlife Trust site.
Incidentally Houghton is pronounced HOW-ten, whereas Houghton Hall in Norfolk is pronounced HOW-ten and Hoghton Tower near Chorley is pronounced HOR-ten
I had visited this Museum before but wanted to look at the Miniatures for inspiration as I was beginning to thinking about dismantling my doll’s house in order to make some smaller room boxes.
It is a large Garden Centre with a cafe but it was’t clear to me from their website that the Museum was still open. The stairs down are tucked away in the corner leading to a good model and craft shop which includes some Doll’s House items as well as model railways, slot cars and more. The Museum bit is reached through the shop and when I visited was free.
Below are the pictures I took.

The visit persuaded me that creating room boxes was well worth a try and that I probably have the means to create at least four boxes of varying sizes from the Doll’s House.
